Blog #2 – Second Skin – Rethinking Love
22 February 2012
Love, in my opinion, is an outdated concept. In current times, with taboos regarding what
is considered a traditional relationship, more and more people are comfortable
being in an uncommitted relationship or in domestic partnerships. The traditional concept of love has shifted
from being an “old maid” and feeling the need to be settled down and married
with children by the age of 25, to women being more independent and less family
oriented at a young age. As illustrated
in the link below, both men and women has been waiting longer to get married
and begin a family.

I also believe love has been redefined with technology. There is no longer the mystery of “where is
my significant other?” or “who are they with?”or “what are they doing?” With modern social networking and cell phone
technology, there is no mystery left in a relationship. It is entirely too easy to find out where,
when, and with who someone is doing something with. There is no need or trust in a relationship
when any information you need to find out about a person is available to you on
the internet.
The concepts show in the movie Second Skin are outrageous.
I find it unimaginable to meet a person in an alternative universe game
in which you decide to move halfway across the country for to be with. In my opinion, it’s absurd and unrealistic to
think that people would be willing to uproot their entire lives in order to be
with someone that they have never met face to face. The same thing goes for online dating. Regardless of the personality profiling, I
find it appalling that someone is willing to have a relationship with someone
they have not met in person. My friend
and I had once signed up for a dating site, just to see what our “ideal match”
would be. My first ideal match was a man
I had had a one-night stand with that was a complete asshole. The very same day my profile was created, it
was deleted. While online dating may
work for some people, the lack of personal face to face interaction makes it obsolete
to me.
My opinions for dating are bitter. I don’t believe in dating or
relationships. I am the last person in
the world who should be asked any opinion on dating and/or relationships. While I put effort into this, it is hard for
me to have an unbiased opinion on dating.
This is one subject where it is hard to keep my personal opinions aside
and have a fair view point on love in a modern society.
so true people would rather be in a physical relationship than emotional. you could be talking to someone that makes you fell like your in a relationship, but it's just a physical thing for them and it could be emotional for you. I believe in relationships and everyone has someone for them...even you
ReplyDeleteI'm just bitter with terrible views on relationships. . .This blog was a ranting of a small percentage of the things I see wrong with having a relationship.
